In this quote, what Voltaire meant was that not everything in history is the truth but since a lot of people say it's true people tend to believe it. People are more focused on the general opinion than it's own history behind it. An example would be when it says that the pilgrims eat with the Wampanoag indians at thanksgiving and that's a lie. Good quotes like, "Imagine what you will 'know' tomorrow". The thought that any scientifically or even semi scientifically minded person can be 100% certain of the facts of today, even the people relating to soft science. People need to open more their minds and research more before saying what they think.
